The Downhill Grill is no standard ski hut although you’d be forgiven for mistaking it for one: rustic timber, typically Tyrolean cosiness, local specialities and sociable après ski at 1,780m above sea level in the heart of the diamond of the Alps, the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski area. It ticks all the boxes for a picture-book winter or skiing holiday.
Top food and drink in the ski area
Would you like a rib-eye steak, a New York strip steak, finest beef fillet or rump steak from the barbecue? Or maybe a mixed grill for two – after all, shared joy is double joy? Perhaps a succulent lady’s steak for the, er, lady? The choice is yours! This extraordinary ski hut is not just for steak lovers, though. Fans of fine burgers also come into their own and at the Downhill Grill they’re spoilt for choice: there’s the Downhill Burger (beef patty and Cheddar), the Steak Burger with beef fillet, the Schnitzel Burger, Gorgonzola Burger and the Veggie Burger with marinated Portobello mushrooms – which one will you choose? Spare ribs more your thing? No problem. Or do you prefer delights plucked from the sea or mountain lakes? Choose between mussels and white wine, barbecued salmon steak, barbecued king prawns, barbecued zander fillet and smoked salmon on a bed of Rösti.

If that all sounds a bit too substantial, we recommend a fresh salad, toasted sandwich or filled baguette. And if you have a sweet tooth, why not enjoy some strudel, cake, ice cream or one of our hot classics?

Fine food and drink in a ski hut? Sure! Especially in the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski area at the head of the Tyrolean Ötztal Valley! Book 24 hours in advance and the Downhill Grill will serve you and at least one other guest some super-special specialities such as Chateaubriand steak with a bouquet of vegetables, baked potato, herb cream and pepper sauce. Or a knuckle of pork with sauerkraut, bread dumplings and garlic bread. Or veal knuckle with roast vegetables and parsley potatoes. Or a T-bone or tomahawk steak with a choice of sauces, salad and side dishes. Easily accessible, the TOP spot for food and drink is right by the lower terminus of the Hochgurglbahn in Pill (Untergurgl). Gurglerstrasse 49 in Obergurgl is easily accessible by both public transport and car. Free parking is available at the Hochgurglbahn’s lower terminus or in Hochgurgl itself.
Skiing holiday experience with ski hut magic
Enjoy a downhill ride on the Hochgurglbahn before finding a panoramic lunch spot on the Downhill Grill’s sun terrace (seats 150). Alternatively, take a seat inside (seats 80) for the rustic ambience and succulent meat dishes – ski hut magic is guaranteed! Also included: the finest après-ski at the umbrella bar next to the Downhill Grill. Did you know that the Downhill Grill is the perfect hut for refuge and refreshments after your night tobogganing or night skiing session when it’s open until 10.30pm! Night tobogganing and night skiing in Hochgurgl take place from 7.30pm to 10.30pm every Friday until 22 December and then every Thursday from 28 December – it’s a key part of your skiing holiday in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl. Tobogganing on the illuminated, three-kilometre-long, winding, natural toboggan run from the upper to the lower terminus of the Hochgurglbahn with a refreshment stop at the ski hut is a must for any skiing holiday in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl.
Tip: If you are staying in Obergurgl or Sölden, take the free toboggan bus to the Hochgurglbahn’s lower terminus in Pill to participate in the night tobogganing with refreshments at the Downhill Grill.
Note: Toboggans are available to rent from Scheiber Sport at the lower terminus and at the TOP Hotel Hochgurgl. Lift transport is free for ski pass holders.
